• Clockworkmod Recovery for the Cube U9GT2 and some other RK2918 devices

As always, the following comes with no warranty or implied warranty of any kind. Use this at your own discretion and only use it if you are able to face the consequences of something going wrong.

Note: This post will be regularly updated with new information. Stay tuned.
damonfeuer (the heavyweight) and I are releasing Clockworkmod v5.5.0.4 recovery for the Cube U9GT2. It is a modified version of the one created by Christian Troy, which was based on the work of koush. Some of the modifications were inspired by the Clockworkmod Touch released by jgelauff (but this is a non-touch version), which was based on the work of Christian Troy, simone201 & koush.

    1. I have only tested the recovery on the Evolution roms, but we expect it to work on all the major roms and clones of the Cube U9GT2: Cube stock, Wackym, Bokorez, N90, Visture, and of course Moage and Evolution. If you flashed a single image rom, it is best to flash the parameter file with the cwm recovery image, but all the above mentioned roms place recovery in the same location, 0x00010000, so it should work just flashing recovery.

    2. The cwm recovery is flashed with the MoageRKtool, the same as used with Moage and Evolution. Just uncheck everything except "recovery" and enter the path to cwm recovery image. DON'T ERASEIDB, only use RUN. It only takes a few seconds to flash.

    3. One problem with most of our roms, is that because they don't have recovery, they also don't enable the keys needed to launch the recovery menu (Vol- then Power). This can be fixed by adding a COMBINATION_KEY line to the parameter file of any of these roms:

    KERNEL_IMG: 0x60408000
    COMBINATION_KEY: 0,6,A,7,0
    CMDLINE: console=ttyS1,115200n8n androidboot.console=ttyS1 init=/init initrd=0x62000000,0x800000

But even without the recovery launch keys, you can still use the cwm recovery menu by booting into recovery using Titanium Backup "Reboot" widget or the "Reboot into Recovery" option of Rom Manager.

Key use within the cwm recovery menu:

    Power = Enter (select option), Vol+/- = Up/Down & Back = Back (previous menu)

    4. Procedure for flashing the cwm recovery with MoageRKtool.exe (Moage.com-RKAndroidTool v1.29)
FOR MOAGE AND EVOLUTION ROM USERS ONLY (Single Image Rom Procedure not available yet)

    A. Use the MoageRKtool.exe in your downloaded rom package for flashing the cwm recovery image. The MoageRKtool flashes multiple images, unlike the RKBatchTool which uses only a single firmware image.

    B. Start the MoageRKTool. Across the bottom it will say "No Found RKAndroid rock usb".

    C. Uncheck everything except "Recovery". Click on the Recovery box with 3 dots on it, then browse to the location of u9gt2_ext3rec.img and click on the file. The Recovery window should now show the path to the cwm recovery image.

    D. Turn off the Cube U9GT2 tablet. Press the "Vol-" (Volume down) key and hold. While holding the key down connect the USB cable to the computer and the upper micro-USB slot on the tablet.

    E. If this is the first time you have run the MoageRKtool on this system, you will have to install the RK29 driver. Download the RK29 driver package and choose the driver appropriate for your system. When connecting the USB cable the first time, Windows will ask for the location of the "rockusb.sys" file. I am using Windows XP so I point it to the RK29 Driver/x86/xp folder. After the driver has been installed, the MoageRKtool will show "Found RKAndroid Loader Rock Usb".

    F. You are now ready to flash the recovery image. DO NOT CLICK ERASEIDB, the right-most of the two rectangles near the bottom. Only click RUN (the left-most rectangle) after you have verified that ONLY the Recovery box is checked.

    G. The flash will only take a few seconds, and you can disconnect the cable to the tablet when the Cube starts to boot.

    5. Tools

    A. CWM_Tool - Used for flashing Parameter file & cwm recovery image

    Readme:
    To Flash/Update CWM -

    >Extract/Get your current parameter file
    >Make any required changes to your parameter file e.g. CWM launch keys
    >Rename your edited parameter file my_parameter
    >Copy my_parameter to the CWM folder (overwriting the example)
    >Put the desired Clockworkmod image into the CWM folder e.g. u9gt2_ext3rec.img
    >Run CWM_Flash.exe
    >Change the recovery image to the one that you wish to use
    >Make sure parameter and recovery are ticked/selected
    >Click FLASH (DO NOT CLICK ERASEIDB UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING)
    >Enjoy CWM

    B. CWM_Extract - Used to extract parameter file from firmware image

    Instructions:
This is a tool to extract individual parts from RK2918 single image files. In particular the parameter file so that it can be flashed with Clockworkmod to a device. This is a modified version of RK29xx Image Pack/Unpack Tools by Wendal.

    >Copy your image file to the Target folder.
    >rename it target.img
    >run Extract.bat
    >Done

The Full_Image folder contains the main image file components, including the Parameter file. This folder can be used for other purposes if you know what you are doing .
