Re: [ROM] Top Notch Tablets - PiPo S1 - Firmware Release 5

Hey all, am still getting bug reports back on all the roms we released recently. Once I get my list compiled (and a bit of free time) I will start making revised and hopefully fixed versions of roms.

Bug reports have been much appreciated!

Regarding CWM - It will not be present in ANY future releases. I grow weary of the complications it almost always causes. Sorry for the trouble this time around.

    Thanks!

    Roman

    Roman,

I just want to thank you for the work you put into this. I've been following your posts on I think three different boards now for months. Your hard work made it possible for me to accomplish what I've needed to. The stock firmware just would not function the way I needed it to. I am very impressed with your version 3. It fixed more than just my USB connectivity problem, it fixed a battery issue, sound ceasing to function after the unit goes to sleep and a couple of other things too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. If I can ever offer anything valuable to this forum, I will do so.

The only real problem CWM causes is corruption of the internal mem on flash (Which is fixable by formatting) and it also causes people to flash an old, unstable kernel because the CWM package contains a september kernel... CWM is not really a huge problem, but its lack of knowledge can make it seem as such. I personally am glad I have CWM on this tablet... ;) But it's not necessary for this tablet, I do agree.

Speaker goes off fine with realmaple's #89 kernel... Battery does drain faster though, that I agree with.

Realmaple kernel 89- sound never came off for me but i do agree about the battery drain issue. But i suppose it is because of the gpu overclocking or maybe when the tablet is on sleep the tablet does not completely go off. Im not really sure about that one lol. There is also a hissing sound with this kernel but i think its because of sound boosting..

The easiest way to get this driver installed seems to be to use program called Moborobo which forces the installation of a suitable driver. Having done this my PC connects every time in either mode.
I just saw this post now. Yes, I understand that there are two different modes. I run Linux exclusively, which is why I had to borrow my daughter's netbook running Windows 7 in order to get anything at all to work. I tried all the tricks I could find and tried to get Motorobo and RKBatchTool to work under Wine too, with no success. The PiPo S1 would not talk to Linux no matter what I tried and no matter what mode I put it in. My Droid 2 will talk easily just by plugging it in.. I even added the needed changes to the vendor ID's and such that is required and recommended to get it working with Linux. My computer would see the tablet but not talk to it. FWIW, I couldn't get it talking in normal (ADB) mode in Windows either, on two different computers I borrowed and tried (Windows XP and Windows 7), whereas the Droid 2 and Droid 1 would plug in and communicate easily with no hassles. So I decided to try changing the firmware and see if that fixed it.

Unfortunately, with my PiPo, changing the firmware wasn't even that easy because it took me forever to get it to communicate correctly, even going through step-by-step instructions from Motorobo, on here, and one other site, it wouldn't work. Motorobo would see the tablet and not talk to it either. RKBatchTool and similar programs just wouldn't see it. I'm not sure what finally kicked it into working but it finally did yesterday and I was able to flash TNT 3 onto it, which fixed everything. Now I can connect to it through ADB or in flash mode every time I try, with no hassles. I'm wondering if there wasn't some weird problem with my particular PiPo. It works now and I spent a good part of my afternoon testing a new app on it so Ms. is one happy Mick.

Can you recommend any good documentation on CWM? It seems like it would be a useful tool with good documentation. I could play around with it for a couple of days and figure it out, which is my normal MO, but I don't have a lot of time right now.
