If I just folllow the guide at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] instead of the advanced restore options above, would it be OK? I don't mine if it take longer, as long as the result is the same.
    Thanks
A few users have had a failure when flashing the kernel image, which stops the entire upgrade process, and the tablet won't boot. If you follow the regular restore option, it may be fine, however, if you have a restore error when flashing kernel, you need to move to the advanced restore options. You would restore system, data, cache from CWM, and restore the kernel using RKAndroidTool. \clockworkmod\backup\M9_4.2.2_TNT_V2_R2/kernel.img

Normal and advanced restore options are included in the CWM menu options.

You could flash both recovery and kernel at the same time, then install system, data, and cache from CWM. Wiping the dalvik cache is also advised, for smoother operation after updating.

Thanks Dansplans, I think it's pretty clear now. One question though, when you mention flashing kernel only using RKAndroidTool, is it the kernel.img under \clockworkmod\backup\M9_4.2.2_TNT_V2_R2 folder or is it the one under \RKAndroidTool\rom?

I'd say backup as that's what you are trying to install via Cwm... As for cleaning the dalvik I did that last time as I do every time I flash my droids... Out of interest what firmware version are people using to do the upgrade... It shouldn't make much of a difference apart from the kernel. I'm going to do a quick back up and try again.

Edit...worked a charm this time round the advanced way...must have missed something the first time

\clockworkmod\backup\M9_4.2.2_TNT_V2_R2 is the correct new kernel image

    Re: [ROM] Pipo M9 V2 4.2.2 TNT R2 with CWM 6.0.3.1

    Hi,

I have stock 4.2.2 flashed and rooted.
Only want to flash CWM so thicked only recovery in RKAndroidtool.
    USB debugging is on.

When I press run I get this message: MSC device can't do upgrade
ADB driver are installed with Moborodo.

    What is wrong?

EDIT: Worked after pressing the switch button

By rom did you mean the one under \RKAndroidTool\rom? I was under the impression that we're trying to flash the new kernel which is under \clockworkmod\backup\M9_4.2.2_TNT_V2_R2? Maybe I misunderstood something here.

If I may summarize the steps a bit based on my understanding:
    1. Using RKAndroidTool, flash both the kernel.img from \clockworkmod\backup\M9_4.2.2_TNT_V2_R2 and the recovery
    2. Reboot into recovery (CWM) and restore the system, data and cache from \clockworkmod\backup\M9_4.2.2_TNT_V2_R2
Are the above steps correct? If they are, I would think that it should avoid possible "kernel flash error" regardless of the version of firmware currently installed

You are correct about the kernel location. Sorry for any confusion.I have updated previous posts to prevent further misinformation. Recovery comes from RKAndroidTool\rom and kernel from \clockworkmod\backup\M9_4.2.2_TNT_V2_R2

The only step I would add is to wipe the dalvik cache, particularly if upgrading from 4.1.

You are also correct that following the steps you laid out, kernel flashing error should no longer be an issue.
